Modular Emergency School Built from Shipping Containers
A modular emergency school designed with Space Designer 3D after Hurricane Irma devastated the French Caribbean island of Saint-Martin in September 2017. The hurricane destroyed approximately 95% of the island's buildings, and the Space Designer 3D team responded by designing a resilient school infrastructure tailored to the urgent needs of the island's children.
Completed within 48 hours, the design uses prefabricated shipping containers and complies with anti-cyclonic building regulations, ensuring safety, durability, and ease of assembly. The site layout includes container-based classrooms, a library, an infirmary, green zones, and integrated solar panels for energy autonomy.
The project illustrates how a digital architecture tool can support fast, scalable, and replicable solutions for post-disaster reconstruction and humanitarian work.
